Ajay Devgn Promises A Meeting With An Obsessed Fan Who Threatened To Commit Suicide

The movie ‘Fan’, released last year, gave the audience a deep insight into the mind of an obsessive fan. The film showed us how an obsessed fan could actually wreak havoc in a celebrity’s life. However, I was quite sceptical about the entire plot’s connect with reality. Until now.

Shamshad, a 22-year-old youth from Jaipur, threatened to commit suicide by drowning himself in a well if the district administration did not arrange a meeting between him and his favourite star, Ajay Devgn.

He warned the people he would let go of the rope if he did not get a meeting with the actor in Mumbai.

Shamshad was jabbering out dialogues from Ajay Devgn’s films the entire time. The villagers had to resort to extreme measures in order to get him to calm down and get out of the well.

“His father and relatives tried to persuade him but he rejected their pleas. Later, a villager impersonated the actor and spoke to him over the phone and invited him to come to Mumbai.”

His father, Nizamuddin assured him that he would buy Shamshad a ticket to Mumbai to meet his favourite actor if he got away from the well.

Shamshad finally listened and was helped out of the well by the police. Later, the police questioned the youth and recommended psychiatric treatment.

“He has memorised all the dialogues from movies in which Devgn has acted. He has not had formal education and spends his time watching movies.”

Upon seeing the news on Twitter, ‘Team Ajay Devgn’ made attempts to get in touch with Shamshad.

Even Ajay Devgn himself tweeted out to Shamshad assuring him that he would be in Jaipur soon.

Soon, the Jaipur police got in touch with the actor with the youth’s contact information and Ajay Devgn thanked them for the same.

While it’s a kind gesture on the actor’s part to tweet out to a die-hard fan. However, wouldn’t this further encourage such suicide attempts from obsessed fans in the hope of getting noticed by their idols? Just a thought.
