Zanele wrote in the video how the owner, “threw their belongings out … for few mins late checkout. She (Sibahle) collapsed and ended up in hospital. She suffered internal injuries and bruises.”

In a video interview with Kevin P. Roberson, Nkumbi said, the host was verbally abusive, and kept saying, “You people” and other repeated comments like, “This is not Africa”.

Nkumbi, as a writer, was at the Amsterdam Stedelijk, where work of the artist collective Zanele Muholi was being showcased. They were scheduled to check out of the apartment at 11 a.m. but were still there after 12 p.m. That’s when the landlord arrived and the altercation took place.

The host faces prosecution for attempted murder.
