Air India Screws It Up Again. Serves Non-Veg Food To Jain Pilgrims On Leh-Delhi Flight.

Air India has been in a sea of fiascoes over the last few years. From fighting pilots in the cockpit to finding a lizard in a biryani, Air India has managed to make headlines; for wrong reasons. And the airline is in news, yet again!

Jain pilgrims were served non-veg food on Leh-Delhi flight on Saturday afternoon. The pilgrims were returning from Sindhu Darshan festival.

Yes, you read that right! Needless to say, these passengers were angry. Sindhu Darshan festival is a festival to mark the celebration of River Sindhu, which is held every year on full moon day (Guru Purnima) in the month of June and celebrated for three days in Leh, Jammu Kashmir.

Top Air India confirmed this news. They said, “The action was taken immediately and we suspended two catering staff of assistant manager rank following the complaint.”

Following this, two Air India Staff were suspended as there was much-anticipated furore regarding this incident.

When the chartered flight took off from the Leh airport, there was a prior intimation for “Hindu meal”. Instead, they were served non-vegetarian food packets. A senior Air India official said, “The return price for the chartered flight ticket was in the range of Rs 24,000 to Rs 26,000 and it was expected of Air India to serve a special treatment to the passengers, but in real, it turned out to be a big embarrassment for national carrier’s credibility among flyers.”

“We have suspended the two catering staff members on the basis of complaint filed by passengers and will issue a charge sheet seeking explanation. Final penalty will be decided after that,” said NK Jain (Air India Director).

Air India has definitely added this incident to its list of woes, which don’t seem surmountable any time soon. It has managed to earn a bad name following all these incidents. As if causing flights delays wasn’t enough, there are also various charge sheets  which include stealing and smuggling!!

Seems like, Air India needs to take special care. Because this is not the first time that an incident like this has been reported.
