Family From Ranchi Gets The Shock Of Their Lives With A ‘Rs 55 Crore’ Electricity Bill

Electricity bills can horrify us. Especially if it is sweltering heat. And a 55 crore electricity bill can scare the hell out of us, literally!

Krishna Prasad, 31, a small time business in Ranchi’s Kadru area got a whopping 55 crore electricity bill while he was away with his family for a marriage. After returning, they found this bill which was priced to this amount, because of which, his mother, Kunti Devi, a 55-year-old woman in Ranchi was in for a shock. Both Krishna Prasad and his mother were taken aback when they realized he was supposed to pay the bill issued by the Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB).

She was so shocked that she was profusely sweating and had to be taken to the hospital.

According to JSEB, Prasad had to pay a bill of Rs.Rs 55,49,88,036 and he was asked to clear it by Monday for 9.90 crore unit of electricity consumed.

 

“I have a small shop under my apartment. I have been charged Rs 55 crore for a fridge, two ACs, three fans and an inverter. Did the JSEB think I was running a steel factory. The bill was astonishing at a time when every day there was power cuts for at least seven hours,” said Prasad.

Prasad has decided to take a strict action against the JSEB authorities. He has decided to slam a case against JSEB, after the mental harassment his mother went through due to the shockingly huge bill.

“There was a software error and an incorrect bill was printed. We have contacted the vendor to find the bugs,” said Ranchi central division–in charge, DN Sahu, adding that the actual bill was Rs 10000, including a due of Rs 360. Two employees have been suspended following this incident.

Well, who would have thought of this?!
