Dubai Just Inaugurated The World’s 1st Functional 3-D Printed Building. SO FREAKING COOL!

Since it’s Dubai, they have to do something bigger and better than the rest of the world. So while us peasants were being fascinated by 3-D printed masks and this and that, Dubai did something that literally shut the world up with its coolness factor.

The world’s first 3-D printed office building opened in Dubai by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The building was constructed in 17 days only. Shaik Mohammad said, “We implement what we plan, and we pursue actions, not theories. The rapidly changing world requires us to accelerate our pace of development for history does not recognise our plans but our achievements.”

The 2,700-square-feet, single storey building was built using a 20-feet tall, massive 3-D printer using a special mix of concrete, fiber reinforced plastic and glass fiber reinforced gypsum.

But although the printer was huge in size, being almost 2 storeys tall, only one man was needed to check that it’s proper functioning.

And guess what was the coolest part? The building was constructed in only $140,000 (approx ₹95 lakhs) including labour and building costs – half of what it would have taken to build it using conventional methods.

There were 18 other people and all were a part of the construction crew which consisted of installers, electricians, and mechanical engineers.

The building will be used as temporary headquarters for the Dubai Future Foundation, and later as Dubai’s Museum of the Future.

Shaikh Mohammad also added, “We announce today the opening of the first 3D-printed office in the world, after less than a month of launching the Dubai 3D printing strategy which showcases a modern model of construction. This is an experience we present to the world on implementing future technology in our lives, and it represents a new milestone for the UAE as a global leader in strategic achievements.”

Super cool stuff, right?
