100 Kg Ganja Found By College Students Under Their Hostel Beds, Labelled As ‘Question Papers’

The problem of drug abuse is not new to any of us. It has been around since as long as one can remember, with India being one of the most stoned countries in the world. The type and substance may have changed, evolved even, but the damage and the problem remain unchanged. Politicians and activists alike have been trying to rid the youth of the supply, but it’s a racket that has taken roots far and wide.

While the debate over legalising ganja for medicinal use has made its way to scientific conversations, no verdict has been given yet. So until that is resolved, the druggies find news ways to smuggle or peddle drugs and they mostly end up trapping young boys and girls to do their dirty work.

Recently, the police found about 120kg of ganja from a private college hostel in Suryapet district of Telangana. The students of the hostel notified the police after they found neatly packed carton under their bed, labelled as exam question papers.

According to Bangalore Mirror, the students belonged to Gayatri Junior college and opened the boxes hoping to leak question papers. The town inspector said,

But, there were dry leaves, instead. When they realised that the leaves are of ganja, they alerted us.”

The packages were allegedly stashed there by the hostel warden, Naganna Naik, and his brother is suspected to be a part of the crime. Both the warden and his brother are absconding currently and have switched off their phones. Many student unions are staging protests against the management.

The inspector further said,

“As of now, warden Naganna Naik and his brother Linga Naik are the suspects. They both come from Mahbubabad, where ganja cultivation is predominant. We suspect that they used the hostel rooms as a transit point for transporting the item to some other location.”

The 120kg ganja found neatly packed in 6 bundles is estimated to be worth ₹2 lakhs. A case has been registered under several sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The youth is constantly seeking new experiences, they are easily lured and influenced into doing thrill-seeking things which could land them in trouble later. But by then, they are in it so deep, they have no way to end the racket. So they are easy targets for the drug mafia to use for their dirty business.

But thankfully, the students were smart enough to not get into this mess and alert the police instead.
